CONDENSED SYSTEMATICS with Joerg Hassman and Daniel Werner
POLAND- Łagiewniki, 1-5 MAY 2013
This is a rare opportunity to spend a week exploring the fundamentals of Contact Improvisation with two very well-known German teachers: Joerg Hassman and Daniel Werner.
For several years now, they have been teaching a 6-month "Foundations of CI" course together in Berlin and the material for this intensive workshop will be a condensed version of that course.
This training focuses intensively on the principles of Contact Improvisation. We (Daniel and Joerg) try to understand this unique dance form in a systematic way. The foundation of what we teach is based on early developmental movement patterns drawn from Body Mind Centering as well as specific bodywork to understand anatomically efficient movement, with a focus on bones and joints in relation to gravity. From there we develop efficient movement patterns for the dance by offering pathways (exact movement sequences with a partner) or explorative dance scores. We believe this brings clarity to the dance, and increases the choices available to us. By focussing on the technical foundations of CI, we also invite doors to open to the emotional, psychological and philosophical aspects.
In this foundation training we work on developing a solid technical basis. Some important elements of this approach are: listening; knowledge of the necessary activity in leading and following; centre to centre connection; leaning with the acceptance of possibly falling off balance and the three forms of touch in the point of contact - roll, slide, or simple touch with no roll or slide. Our goal is a centre to centre duet that enables a true three dimensionality. Lifts are naturally a part of this experience.
PRACTICAL INFO: TIME: 1st-5th of May 2013. We will begin on Wednesday afternoon and finish on Sunday so that everybody will be able to get back to their homes before the working week starts. The workshop itself will be 5 hours on a daily basis divided into morning and afternoon session. In the evenings there will be jams, no time limited as the space will belong to us at all times.
PLACE: The intensive will take place in the building of the primary school in Łagiewniki, which is a peaceful and quiet district of Łódź, located in the suburbs of the city. The school is situated by the forest and in the forest there is a pond where you can swim. We will have a playground and a fire-place at our disposal (last time the bonfires were amazing). The playground is frisbee-, badminton- or football-friendly and hopefully someone will hang a slack between the trees so that we will be able to train our balance. Sleeping in the classrooms (one can also sleep outdoors if the weather is fine). Dancing in the spacious gym with an excellent wooden floor.

FOOD: The price includes 3 simple and nutritious vegan meals a day. If you feel you might need something in between please make sure you bring something extra with you. There is a small shop nearby, not necessarily well equipped, but you can always get some fruits, veggies or chocolate out there.
THINGS TO TAKE WITH YOU: carrimat, sleeping bag, basic cutlery and dishes, earplugs (if you do not sleep very deeply), enough clothes to change, frisbee, some games to share, your favorite tea.
PRICE: It is 230 Euro for which you get 25 hours of workshop, long jams, accommodation and food.
